Northumberland Paramedics Christopher Lake and Blake Manley were awarded one of the highest professional honours on September 20th as they accepted the Governor General’s Emergency Medical Services Exemplary Service Medal.
In addition to the two medal recipients, Northumberland Paramedic Jim Anderson will receive a ‘bar’ commemorating 40-years of exemplary service this year, to accompany his previously-awarded Exemplary Service Medal. This bar will be awarded at a special presentation at Queen’s Park in November.
“We have a team of immensely skilled paramedics serving Northumberland County,” stated County Warden Mark Lovshin. “It requires extensive training and a commitment to community to be able to provide the vital and sometimes challenging duties of an emergency services professional. On behalf of County Council, we thank these remarkable individuals for going above and beyond while contributing to a safe and thriving Northumberland.”
The Exemplary Service Medal recognizes “paramedics who have served for at least twenty years in a meritorious manner, characterized by the highest standards of good conduct, industry and efficiency.” Of the recipient’s twenty or more years of service, at least ten must have been performed on the street or air level, involving potential risk to the individual.
“Our paramedics have continually been recognized for their dedication, skill and community involvement,” stated Northumberland Paramedics Chief and previous medal recipient Bill Detlor. “This year’s recipients are outstanding examples of how committed our team members are to caring for Northumberland residents, choosing to dedicate their time both during and outside of work hours to serving our community. On behalf of the Northumberland Paramedics team, we congratulate these commendable individuals, who have proven to be both skilled professionals and generous community members.”
