Cobourg Police Services Wraps Up July STEP Focused on Speeding

In Police Blotter

The Cobourg Police Service (CPS) has concluded its July Selective Traffic Enforcement Project (STEP), which focused on addressing speeding throughout the community. The month-long initiative aimed to enhance road safety through targeted enforcement and public education.

Throughout July, CPS officers conducted proactive speed enforcement in high-traffic areas and locations identified through community feedback and previous complaints. Officers also engaged with drivers and pedestrians to raise awareness about the dangers of speeding and the importance of safe driving habits.

During the July STEP initiative, officers issued 28 Provincial Offence Notices (PONs) for speeding and charged one driver for Stunt Driving – Excessive Speed. The driver’s vehicle was impounded for 14 days and their licence was suspended for 30 days. Officers also issued Numerous warnings and PONs issued for various other offences

Road safety is a shared responsibility. While July STEP has concluded, officers will continue to monitor traffic and enforce speed limits year-round.

As summer continues, CPS encourages everyone to stay alert, obey posted speed limits, and prioritize safety, especially in residential areas, near parks, and along waterfront routes where pedestrian activity remains high.

Let’s keep working together to make Cobourg’s roads safer for everyone.
