Sounds of the Next Generation (SONG) is thrilled to announce a major milestone in its growth: a three-year, $75,000 commitment from the Azrieli Foundation, one of Canada’s largest non-corporate philanthropic organizations and a national leader in arts and education support.

The funding will provide SONG with essential stability as it prepares for its 14th season of delivering free, high-quality music education to youth across Northumberland County.

“This investment is a win for our entire community,” says Port Hope Mayor Olena Hankivsky. “A vibrant arts culture is crucial to thriving communities. SONG brings that culture into our classrooms, supports our shared infrastructure like Port Hope High School and the Capitol Theatre, and most importantly, helps build resilient youth right here at home.”

SONG’s After School programming will expand with this support, adding new short courses for students to try our instruments with less commitment. Regular classes continue, with choral, strings, and rock band leading the popular options The Azrieli Foundation’s support marks a bold step in bringing world-class programming to rural regions often left behind.

“This is a historic partnership for us,” says Executive Director Miles Bowman. “For a rural program like ours to be supported by a national arts leader like Azrieli is both affirming and inspiring. Our community can now count on SONG’s presence for years to come.”

The Azrieli Foundation’s support is a vital step in SONG preparing for record enrollment in its 14th season. “This grant provides the stability to dream bigger — and reach more youth,” says Artistic Director Lucas Marchand. “It means that music, mentorship and cultural identity are within reach for kids in every part of Northumberland.”
