In Police Blotter

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is proud to announce and welcome its new Detachment Commander, Inspector Mike Cavanagh.

Inspector Cavanagh, who most recently served as the interim Commander at the Haliburton Highlands Detachment and previously as Staff Sergeant at the Peterborough County Detachment, began his policing career in 2005 with the Township of Stirling-Rawdon Police Service. He later transitioned to the City of Kawartha Lakes Police Service before joining the Ontario Provincial Police in 2010, where he was posted to the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment. Over the course of his career, Inspector Cavanagh has held a variety of roles across multiple detachments, including serving with the Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau’s Drug Enforcement Unit.
He holds a diploma from the Correctional Worker Program at Fleming College and has completed the Senior Police Leadership course through Trent University. In recognition of his 20 years of dedicated service, he has been awarded the Police Exemplary Service Medal.

Inspector Cavanagh brings a broad range of investigative experience and a deep understanding of Detachment operations. His strong leadership and extensive background in policing make him an excellent addition to the Northumberland Detachment and an asset to the wider community.

“I am pleased to welcome Michael Cavanagh, and I offer our congratulations on behalf of the Northumberland OPP Detachment Board as he begins his new role as OPP Detachment Commander for Northumberland,” said John Davison, Chair of the Northumberland OPP Detachment Board. “His extensive experience and knowledge will serve our communities well. He has our full support and confidence.”
