Northumberland OPP – Municipality of Brighton Man Charged with Impaired Following Collision (Name Released)

In Police Blotter

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an individual with impaired operation following a single-vehicle collision.

On June 19, 2025, shortly before 3:00 a.m., police responded to a report of a collision on Trent Valley Drive. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and the Township of Cramahe Fire Department also attended the scene.

The vehicle was located on its roof and off the roadway. Officers initiated an impaired driving investigation. The sole occupant was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

As a result, Owen TURNER (19) from the Municipality of Brighton has been charged with:

Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

Failure or refusal to comply with demand

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in July.

In addition to the court date, a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment were initiated under statute.

The Northumberland OPP would like to remind the public that failing to provide a suitable sample of breath or blood upon an officers demand, carries the same consequences as ‘Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs’, and ‘Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)’.

If you know or suspect that a driver is impaired by alcohol or drugs, call 9-1-1. In doing so, you may save a life. Whether you are impaired by alcohol or drugs, impaired is impaired and driving under the influence of either is a criminal offence. If you plan on drinking or consuming drugs, plan to not drive.

Instead, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi or public transit, or come up with another plan that takes impaired driving out of the picture.
