Cobourg and Area Museum opens for the season with a new exhibit called, “Cobourg: A Town Built on Dreams.”

Dignitaries and supporters attended opening of the 2025 season at the museum’s location at 141 Orr Street in Cobourg on Saturday, June 14, 2025.Mary Dunphy, President of the Cobourg Museum Foundation welcomes guests and spoke about the structural repairs to the former barracks including a Ontario Trillium Foundation grant for a accessibility ramp, Canada Cultural Space, for the removal of a post holding up the fram of the building which was replaced by steel beams and funding from the Architectural Conservancy East Northumberland.

In 2021 a Resiliency Study by Lord Curltural Resources gave two key recommendation which resulted in the renaming of the museum formerly called the Sifton-Cook Heritage Centre to the Cobourg and Area Museum and to create a permanent exhibit of the history of Cobourg.

Just prior to the opening ceremonies of the museum Stanley Isherwood, Treasurer, gave Today’s Northumberland a tour of the exhibit.
