Durham Regional Police – Youth Charged After 17 Vehicles Lit on Fire

A 17-year-old male is facing charges after 17 vehicles were lit on fire in Whitby.

 On Monday, February 17, 2025, at approximately 7:40 p.m., members of Central West Division were dispatched to an assist fire call in the area of Hopkins Street and Nichol Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located several vehicles on fire. Whitby Fire extinguished the fires and no injuries were reported. 

 On Monday, February 24, 2025 at approximately 1:30 a.m., members of Central West Division were dispatched to the area of Kentucky Derby Way and Britannia Avenue West in Oshawa for a tow truck that has been set on fire. There were no reported injuries.

 A 17-year-old male from Toronto is charged with Arson.

 He was held for a bail hearing.

 The investigation is continuing as police are working to identify further suspects.
