The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to and are investigating several incidents over the long weekend.
City of Kawartha Lakes Man Charged with Assault, Dangerous Operation, Mischief
On May 16, 2025, shortly after 7:00 p.m., police responded to a report of occupants in a vehicle who were engaged in a dispute on County Road 45, in the Township of Alnwick/Haldimand.
Officers located the vehicle which was stationary and pulled over to the side of the road. Following initial investigation, OPP took one person into custody and there were no injuries reported.
As a result, a 35-year-old male, from the City of Kawartha Lakes, has been charged with:
– Assault
– Dangerous operation
– Mischief – destroys or damages property.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date. They shall not be named to protect the identity of the victim.
Brighton Woman Charged with Impaired
On May 19, 2025, at approximately 6:30 p.m., OPP observed a passenger vehicle unable to maintain it’s lane while on County Road 30 in the Municipality of Brighton. The officer stopped the vehicle and entered into an impaired operation investigation. The driver was arrested and transported to a local detachment for further tests.
Lee-Ann LOUGHRIDGE, 56-years-old, from the Municipality of Brighton, has been charged with:
– Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
– Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.
In addition to a future court date, a further 90-day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impound was initiated as per statute.
MVC Results in Highway Closure
On May 19, 2025, at around 11:40 p.m., police responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 401 eastbound in the Municipality of Port Hope. One vehicle was reported to be on fire and a number of people injured. The Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services were also dispatched to the location.
The highway was closed as crews attended to those involved in the collision. All four occupants were brought to a local hospital while two were further transported to Toronto hospitals. Injuries are described as non-life-threatening.
Highway 401 was reopened at approximately 3:30 a.m., on May 20, 2025, and this investigation is ongoing.
