The Municipality of Port Hope acknowledges the challenges that residents, businesses, and visitors have experienced during the current phase of the Walton Street reconstruction project—particularly with respect to parking access and availability.
The municipality recognizes that the temporary loss of access to private driveways and parking lots has caused considerable inconvenience, especially for those with specific mobility needs or loading/unloading requirements.
In response to community feedback, the Municipality has implemented several interim measures to help alleviate parking pressures and maintain accessibility and safety throughout the construction zone.
These include:
Three new on-street parking spaces added on Brown Street
Free public parking now available at the overflow lot located at 74 Queen Street
Permit-only parking spaces designated at the Cavan Street Lot for those directly impacted by the construction (permits issued by Municipal By-law staff)
Extended-duration parking passes available for affected residents and businesses
Scaffolding installation at 85 Walton Street is now complete, and adjacent parking spaces have been reopened
Accessible parking enhancements, including a converted accessible space on John Street and an additional accessible space on Walton Street near Brewery Lane

Please be reminded that all standard parking regulations remain in effect during construction. This includes restrictions against parking in “No Parking” zones, within 9 metres of intersections, in front of fire hydrants, or in metered spaces without payment. These rules are enforceable regardless of any temporary parking permits issued.
Additionally, the municipality encourages the use of underutilized parking areas, including the south side of South Street and both sides of Brown Street, which remain available for public use.
