Belleville Police – Man Struck by VIA Rail Train

In Police Blotter

On May 8, 2025, just before 10:00 p.m., the Belleville Police Service (BPS) received a report from VIA Rail Police that a male had been struck by a VIA Rail train in the Belleville area.

Officers immediately responded and began a search of the area to locate the individual.

The BPS drone was deployed to assist in the search efforts.

A short time later, police were notified by staff at Belleville General Hospital that a 56-year-old male had presented to the emergency department reporting injuries sustained from being struck by a train.

Upon speaking with the male and reviewing train video footage, officers were able to confirm he was the individual involved in the incident.

Fortunately, he sustained only minor injuries.

He was kept at the hospital for observation and has since been released.

The male advised he was looking for a cell phone and didn’t realize the train was so close to him when he was struck.
