Northumberland Hills Hospital is celebrating its 15th anniversary by inviting members of the public in for a behind-the-scenes tour Oct. 18.
It was October 2003 that the long-awaited opening of the new hospital at 1000 DePalma Dr., Cobourg, took place. Community members turned out in large numbers to see the facility they had worked so long and hard for.
Now members of the public are invited in as a thank-you for their continued support.
It will be the hospital’s opportunity to demonstrate the health-care services available today, and to highlight services and supports that are expected to grow in the coming years as demand for patient care continues and evolves.
Guided tours – hosted by hospital staff, physicians, and foundation and auxiliary volunteers – will depart at 15-minute intervals in the afternoon and evening from the Main Street Bistro on the first floor. Each tour lasts about an hour and will visit as many areas of the hospital as possible. These include Cancer and Supportive Care, surgical suites, birthing suites and Diagnostic Imaging (where there is the opportunity for a first-hand look at Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Computed Tomohgraphy, Mammogram and Fluoroscopy units).
Tour participants will also be encouraged to visit with staff, physicians and volunteers in the Bistro, while enjoying music, refreshments and photo displayes specially offered for the occasion.
Hospital president and chief executive officer Linda Davis said they have much to celebrate.
“This hospital brought many new health-care services and supports to Northumberland County when it opened on October 22, 2003. NHH would not have been possible without the exceptional support and commitment of this community, and we’re looking forward to saying thanks, celebrating the successes and looking ahead to the future, together.”
Tour space is limited, so organizers ask you to reserve your spot by Oct. 16 by calling 905-372-6811 ext. 3068 or e-mailing aburns@nhh.ca.
