Cobourg Man Charged Fail to Comply, HTA Offences
A 36-year-old man was arrested for breaching bail conditions after police conducted a traffic stop Saturday afternoon.
On April 18, 2025, at approximately 2:30 p.m., police on general patrol on Division Street observed a vehicle travelling with an equipment violation contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).
A traffic stop was initiated, and the driver was identified.
Through investigation, it was learned that the driver was on a release order with conditions to remain in his residence unless accompanied by his surety.
As a result, a 36-year-old Cobourg man was arrested and charged with the following:
• Fail to Comply with Release Order – Contrary to Section 145(5)(a) of the Criminal Code
• Drive Motor Vehicle – Plate Improperly Displayed –Section 7(1)(b)(i) HTA
• Drive Motor Vehicle – No Validation on Plate –Section 7(1)(c)(i) HTA
• Driver Fail to Surrender Licence –Section 33(1) HTA
• Fail to Surrender Insurance Card –Section 3(1) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act
• Fail to Notify Change of Address – Licence –Section 33(1) HTA Regulation 340/94
• Fail to Notify Change of Address – Section 9(2) HTA
The accused was held for a Show Cause Hearing and remanded into custody.
Cobourg Man Charged As A Result of Fire Investigation
A Cobourg man has been charged as a result of a fire investigation.
On Monday, April 14, 2025, the Cobourg Police Service and Cobourg Fire Department responded to a report of a grass fire on Strathy Road.
The fire was quickly extinguished. The grass had ignited after someone lit a discarded wooden pallet.
After further investigation, police identified a suspect from CCTV footage.
As a result, a 49-year-old Cobourg man was arrested and charged with Mischief – destroys or damages property contrary to section 430(4) of the Criminal Code. The accused was released on an undertaking with a future court date.
Cobourg Man Charged with Driving While Prohibited
A 30-year-old Cobourg man was arrested for driving while prohibited Saturday afternoon.
On Saturday, April 19, 2025, at approximately 4:40 p.m., police on general patrol in the area of James Street East and Division Street observed a vehicle with an expired licence plate validation attempting to avoid police.
A traffic stop was initiated. As a result of further investigation, a 30 –year-old Cobourg man was arrested and charged with:
1. Operation while prohibited contrary to section 320.18 of the Criminal Code
2. Drive Motor Vehicle – no validation on plate contrary to section 7(1)(c)(i) HTA
3. Driving while under suspension contrary to section 53(1) HTA
4. Fail to surrender insurance card contrary to section 3(1) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act
5. Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle contrary to section 7(5)(a) HTA
The accused was released on an Appearance Notice and Part 3 Summons.
