Northumberland OPP – Charges Laid in Domestic Assault

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an individual following an intimate partner violence investigation.

On March 29, 2025, at approximately 9:45 p.m., officers responded a report of a disturbance at an address in the Township of Hamilton. Police proceeded to the residence where it was believed that firearms were located therein.

Officers arrived and were met outside by the victim who had sustained minor injuries.

Due to information relating to firearms being involved in the incident, members of the Emergency Response Team (ERT), Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) and Canine Unit (K9) were also dispatched to the location.

For the safety of residents in the area, containment was established as officers continued with the investigation.

On March 30, 2025, shortly before 3:50 a.m., a 39-year-old male, from the Township of Hamilton, was taken into custody without incident.

A search warrant was carried out at the address where a number of firearms and ammunition were seized.

The individual was charged with the following offences:

– Pointing a firearm

– Assault with a weapon – spousal

– Assault causing bodily harm – spousal

– Assault – spousal – two counts

– Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose

– Mischief – destroys or damages property

– Careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition – two counts

The accused was held for bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg.
