In Local, Police Blotter

An investigation is underway after a number bags of garbage were dumped in Hamilton Township.

It’s unknown when the garbage was dumped, but Northumberland County are investigating after receiving complaints on Thursday, November 20, 2025.

Bags of garbage litter the area on Normar Road in Cobourg’s east end.

Ironically the garbage was dumped right below a sign that stated, “No Littering No Dumping” and stating a maximum fine is $5,000.

Normar Road is situated on the boundary of Cobourg and Hamilton Township. With the garbage being dumped on the east side, it’s technically in Hamilton Township.

Northumberland County attended, “and removed all waste that was within the public lands (road right-of-way and the decommissioned railway corridor),” said Kate Campbell, Director of Communications.
“Staff have also connected with the private property owner and with Hamilton Township regarding property standards relating to remainder of the waste on private property.”

Hamilton Township Manager of Development Services Tim Jeronimus said, “the municipality is aware of this and will be dealing with the private property owner regarding the cleanup of their property. County Waste Division has been conducting their investigation based on garbage within the road allowance in effort to identify the source.”

A document containing a name was located in the garbage.
