The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested and charged an impaired driver who was first observed speeding.

On February 6, 2025, at around 9:15 p.m., OPP were on patrol in County Road 9 in the Township of Alnwick/Haldimand when a passenger vehicle was observed travelling at 113 Km/h in a posted 80 Km/h limit.

The vehicle was stopped, and the officer made a Mandatory Alcohol Screening demand for the driver to provide a sample of breath. With the result, the individual was arrested and transported to a local police station for further tests. A search revealed approximately 25 grams of Cannabis available to the driver.

Jared GOFFEY (age 35) from Warkworth, has been charged with:
– Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 pl us)
– Drive motor vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
– Speeding.

In addition to a future court date for the accused, a further 90-day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impound was initiated as per statute.

If you know or suspect that a driver is impaired by alcohol or drugs, call 9-1-1. In doing so, you may save a life. Whether you are impaired by alcohol or drugs, impaired is impaired and driving under the influence of either is a criminal offence. If you plan on drinking or consuming drugs, plan to not drive.

Instead, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi or public transit, or come up with another plan that takes impaired driving out of the picture.
