Heavily armed police converged on a house in Cobourg during a early morning raid on Thursday, January 30, 2025.

At approximately 5 a.m. members of the OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) converged on a house on John Street in Cobourg.

Numerous people were taken into custody at the time and a number of them were later released.

Cobourg Police vehicles lined John Street south of James Street during the raid.

It’s believed the raid was being conducted by Cobourg Police Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB) along with the assistance of the Port Hope Police CIB.

Heavily armed TRU members blocked John Street from James Street to University Avenue until the residence was secured.

Once the immediate area was deemed safe, OPP left the area and members of the Cobourg Police, including uniform members, CIB and scenes of crime officers remained on scene.

Cobourg Police issued a release shortly before 6 a.m. stating, “The Cobourg Police Service are currently on scene in the area of John Street and James Street for an investigation.

There is no risk to public safety at this time, but residents are asked to remain out of the area until
further notice. An update will be provided when the investigation is complete.”

Today’s Northumberland will provide an update when more information becomes available.

In November, 2024 the same residence was the scene of a search warrant.
