Potential Scam Alert Regarding Water Meter Replacement Calls in the Municipality of Port Hope

In City Hall, Local

The Municipality of Port Hope has been informed of fraudulent phone calls from individuals falsely claiming to represent Neptune Technology Group, the company managing our water meter replacement program. These callers have asked for personal information and mentioned a supposed “pre-appointment inspection.”

Please be advised:
Neptune Technology Group will not contact residents by phone to request personal information. After you receive a letter in the mail from Neptune Technology Group, you are responsible for contacting them to schedule your water meter replacement appointment.

They will never call you to book a ‘pre-appointment inspection’.

Neptune Technology Group will never attempt to sell you additional services.

Unfortunately, fraudulent activities often accompany efficiency programs such as this. The Municipality thanks the residents who promptly reported this issue, allowing us to act quickly to inform and protect our community.

To safeguard yourself and others:

Do not share personal information with callers claiming to represent Neptune.

Do not book a ‘pre-appointment inspection,’ as it is not part of the program.

Check in with family members or friends who may be more vulnerable to scams.

Report suspicious calls or concerns to the Municipality.

For more information or to report suspicious activity, please contact Mike Stewart, Manager, Water.

We urge all residents to stay vigilant and help spread awareness of this issue.
