City of Kawartha Lakes OPP – Driver Charged with Impaired After Leaving Vehicle in Ditch (Name Released)

Members from the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle in the ditch on Simcoe Street.

On December 14, 2024, at 7:45 p.m., officers were dispatched after a motor vehicle had been located on Simcoe Street in the ditch. Witnesses at the scene provided information that the driver of the vehicle had taken off on foot and was no longer at the scene. Responding officers located the driver just north of the vehicle.

Through investigation, Michael Carveth, 36-year-old from Beaverton was arrested and charged with

– Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

– Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit

In addition to the charges the driver received a 90-day licence suspension, and the motor vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

The accused was released from custody with conditions and will appear later in court.
