Cobourg council Wednesday night voted its support of Mayor Lucas Cleveland’s application to make four requests to make delegations at the 2025 ROMA conference.

The town was notified Nov. 1 that delegation requests may be made to present to the Rural Ontario Municipal Association forum, and Cleveland wants to present to four ministries on different topics.

To the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, he wants to discuss the town’s Emergency Care Establishment Bylaw and its necessity in the absence of provincial standards governing such establishments.

To the Ministry of Health, he wants to present the town’s Sept. 25 motion supporting involuntary care for individuals with severe mental-health and addiction issues.

To the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport, he would like to apply for support from the Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund for new outdoor pickleball courts.

To the Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, he wants to drum up support for Cobourg’s Eastern Ontario Development Fund application to invest in required infrastructure (stormwater management) to increase developable lands in the Lucas Point Business Industrial Park.

Chief Administrative Officer Tracey Vaughan said staff will do much of the work on the required reports, and get outlines and high-level sketches ready to support Cleveland’s requests.
