Dangerous Driving Arrest:
A 31-year-old Peterborough resident has been arrested on warrants for charges including dangerous driving, stunt driving, failing to stop and operating a motorcycle with unnecessary and excessive noise following a late August incident in the City.
On August 29, 2018 at approximately 4:35 a.m. the accused was seen by police driving a motorcycle in a manner that was dangerous to the public.
Officers attempted to follow the accused and conduct a traffic stop as the motorcycle travelled
north on Water Street from Simcoe Street to Nassau Mills Road at speeds estimated to be 100km/h over the posted 50km/h – 60km/h limit while weaving in between other vehicles.
The accused was also seen failing to slow down and stop at an intersection and while stopped at a red light was heard revving the engine loudly and in an excessive manner.
Due to concerns for the safety of other motorists, pedestrians and the accused, officers had to terminate following the motorcycle. Through the investigation the driver was identified and on September 4, 2018 warrants were issued for his arrest.
On September 5, 2018 officers located the accused outside a Peterborough residence where he was arrested on the warrants.
Richard Andrew Hambleton, 31, of Trailview Drive, is charged with the following:
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
- Race motor vehicle – stunt driving (172(1) Highway Traffic Act
- Disobey stop sign – fail to stop (136(1)(a) Highway Traffic Act
- Fail to signal – lane change (142(1) Highway Traffic Act
- Unnecessary noise (75(4) Highway Traffic Act
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on September 20, 2018.
Over 80mgs Arrest:
A report from a concerned citizen has led to the arrest of a 53-year-old Cavan Monaghan resident for operating a farm tractor while over the legal limit of alcohol.
On September 3, 2018 at 3:50 p.m. an officer on duty in the Township of Cavan Monaghan was approached by a citizen reporting a possible impaired driver leaving a store and driving away in a farm tractor.
The officer located the accused operating a tractor in the area of Best Road and Mount Pleasant Road. While speaking with the driver, officers noted a strong odour of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver’s breath. A subsequent breath test revealed the driver had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system while operating the tractor.
As a result of the investigation Lorne William McCall, 53, of Hayes Line, Township of Cavan Monaghan, was arrested and charged with the following:
- Driving with more than 80mgs of alcohol in blood
- Driving while under suspension (53(1) Highway Traffic Act
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on September 27, 2018.
Theft/Fraud Arrests:
Two Peterborough residents have been arrested and charged following a theft of two mobile phones that were pawned at a local swap shop.
On August 14, 2018 the victim had two cell phones stolen from her Peterborough residence. The mobile phones were then pawned at a local pawn shop on August 18, 2018. The theft was reported to police on August 27, 2018 and through the investigation the co-accused were identified.
On September 4, 2018 officers located the co-accused where, as a result of the investigation they were arrested and charged.
Toni Ashley Thompson, 24, of King Street, is charged with the following:
- Theft under $5,000 X2
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 X2
- Fraud under $5,000 X2
Charles Robert McCutcheon, 30, of Walker Avenue, is charged with the following:
- Theft under $5,000 X2
- Fail to comply with a probation order X2
- Fail to comply with a recognizance X2
The co-accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear in court on September 20, 2018.
Assault Arrest:
A 29-year-old Peterborough resident is facing assault charges after two persons were assaulted Wednesday evening in the area of George and Hunter Streets.
On September 5, 2018 at approximately 5:30 p.m. a male was in the area of George and Hunter Streets when he was approached by the accused asking for change. The male advised he did not have any change and also advised the male should be careful of the traffic in the area. It was reported that the accused then assaulted the victim including striking him in the head. A female passerby attempted to intervene at which point she was also assaulted.
The incident was reported to police and officers attended the area where they located the accused. The male victim was taken to a local hospital for assessment of his injuries.
As a result of the investigation Joseph Philip Willis, 29, of Murray Street, was arrested and charged with assault X2.
The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court later today (Sept. 6).
