Ganaraska River Flowing With Salmon

In Local, News, Photo Gallery

For anglers who favour salmon the Ganaraska River in Port Hope is the place to be this weekend. Thousands of salmon are making their way up the river to spawn while anglers try to catch them. In some cases, people standing in the water had to jump out of the way to avoid the fish that resembled torpedoes going up the river in the shallow water. In the deeper areas of the river it was black with salmon making their way through the rapids. Port Hope Police and the Ministry of Natural Resources kept their eye on the anglers to see if they were abiding by the law.

Port Hope Police responded to the fish cleaning station on Mill Street South following a disturbance.  There were no charges.  Meanwhile, volunteers and staff worked to keep the fish cleaning station as clean as possible by washing out the garbage containers.
