Complimentary breakfast gobbled by stolen vehicle suspect
Attempting to sneak a complimentary Friday morning breakfast from a local hotel didn’t pan out for a 52-year-old man.
An off-duty officer spotted the man – who was wanted on a number of warrants related to a stolen vehicle investigation on September 26, 2024 – entering a local hotel around 7 a.m.
Officers arrived and found the suspect, who was of no fixed address, helping himself to the complimentary breakfast offered by the business to patrons.
Jason Rushlow was arrested without incident.
The warrant had been issued by Belleville police on charges including dangerous operation of a vehicle, flight from police, possession of property obtained by crime, failing to comply with probation and driving without a licence.
Following a bail hearing, Rushlow was remanded into custody with a court date in October to face the charges.

Traffic stop leads to arrest
A 44-year-old Belleville man was arrested following an early morning traffic stop over the weekend.
Shortly after 3 a.m. an officer on patrol on Moira Street West spotted a male operating a vehicle that was known to be a suspended driver.
A traffic stop was initiated and a passenger in the vehicle – who was also known to police – attempted to conceal his identity. It was soon revealed the passenger was on conditions to remain in his house between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 p.m.
The male passenger was arrested and charged with failing to comply with a probation order and failing to comply with a release order.
The passenger was held for a bail hearing.

Sunday morning disturbance
Officers were dispatched to a College Street West apartment early Sunday for a report of an unwanted male refusing to leave the premises.
Police arrived and identified the 38-year-old Belleville man refusing the leave.
He was arrested on three counts of breaching conditions of a release order and held for a bail hearing.

Downtown incident leads to arrest
A report of a male displaying a handgun near the corner of Bridge and Church streets early Sunday led to the arrest of a 52-year-old city man.
Officers were dispatched around 11 a.m. to the downtown intersection after the man was spotted displaying what appeared to be a handgun.
Police located the man and found him to have a handgun-style pellet gun.
He was arrested, charged with carrying a concealed weapon, two counts of breach of probation and held for a bail hearing Monday.
