Time is ticking for clean-up at the former file factory on Cavan Street in Port Hope.

A “Order to Remedy Non-Conformity with Standards of Maintenance and Occupancy was issued after an inspection at the site located at 121 Cavan Street on September 16, 2024.

On July 14, 2024 flames enveloped a section of the former factory. The OFM along with Port Hope Fire and Emergency Services investigated to try and determine a cause.

After the investigation was concluded, the building torn down due to safety concerns.

The order states, Spotlight Development Inc in Toronto, must, “take all necessary steps to remove debris from the property, make the property and buildings safe and secure. Take steps to obtain all permits and approvals required to carry out the work and protect/prevent the damage of all remaining heritage aspects of the property.

There are two notices placed along the fencing stating there must be compliance with the terms of the order before October 4, 2024.
