(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 159 incidents this past week, here are some examples:
August 27
- A resident from Port Hope who resides on Oak Hill Road reported to police that sometime in the evening of August 24, 2018 unknown person(s) on what appears to be ATV’s dam aged her fence, ran over sapling trees in her yard then backed into her mailbox causing it to fall over. Investigation is ongoing.*
- An officer stopped a grey Toyota sedan westbound on Highway 401 in the Municipality of Port Hope, after it was measured travelling 130 km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone. As a result of the investigation a 25 year old male from Newmarket, Ontario was charged with driving while under suspension, speeding, and fail to notify change of address on his licence. The vehicle he was driving was towed and impounded for seven days. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on October 3, 2018.
August 28
- A male from Alnwick-Haldimand Township called police to report he may be a victim to a fraud. He received call from someone stating they were with a bank working out of an office in Toront o. They advised him that his bank account had been compromised and were able to catch a $300 Ebate charge and indicated that there was a transfer made through Western Union to somewhere in the Ukraine. The male was told that they would send him a cheque for more money than what they claimed he was compromised and he would have to send the overpaid amount back to them. The male was also told to go to a local area store and purchase google play cards. The male checked his accounts and no fraudulent transactions had been made at the time of this report. Precautionary measures were taken by his banking institution and advice was provided.
- A male from Trent Hills reported to police that three attempts have been made to open credit card accounts using his personal information combined with fake phone numbers and email accounts. The male had not been compromised of any money at the time he reported it to police. He has attended his banking institution and taken precautionary measures and notified the Anti-Fraud Department. Investigation is continuing.*
August 29
- Just after midnight police received a call regarding several youths drinking at a bush party near the end of Oak Hill Road in the Municipality of Port Hope. Officers attended and the party was quickly dispersed and the partiers safely transported.
- An officer stopped a motorcycle for a Highway Traffic Act offence after it was observed to be travelling on Ontario Street in the Municipality of Port Hope. As a result of the investigation a 57 year old male from Port Hope, Ontario was charged with two counts of drive while under suspension, use plate not authorized for vehicle and drive motor vehicle with no currently validated permit. The licence plates were seized and the accused is to appear in court on October 3 , 2018.
- At approximately 6:30p.m. a male was travelling eastbound on Highway 401 towing an ATV on a flatbed trailer. He pulled off the highway onto the shoulder just west of the Brighton exit when he realized his trailer had a flat tire. The trailer was unhitched as the male returned to his home in Trenton, Ontario to get the spare tire. When he returned to the location where he left the trailer one hour later he found the ATV had been removed from the trailer. The stolen vehicle is described as a 2012 camouflage coloured 750 CC Kawasaki KR7 ATV that had an Ontario licence plate 7JK63 attached to it. It has an LED light bar on the front as well as LED lights on the back, mesh netting on the back rack and an aftermarket horn. There is a tear on the right side of the seat near the back. The ATV has new Bear Claw tires and winch at the front. The permit and insurance documents were inside the glove box of the ATV when it was sto len. Police continue to investigate *.
Northumberland OPP officers investigated 13 accidental 911 calls/alarms; 11 motor vehicle collisions; 35 traffic related complaints and conducted 15 RIDE programs during this time period.
