Belleville Police Service – Barricaded Person Arrested

In Police Blotter

A man armed with a hatchet and knife who barricaded himself in a west hill apartment was arrested by members of the Belleville Police Emergency Response Unit (ERU) following a four-hour stand-off, Wednesday.

Officers were called to an apartment building on Mary Street around 10:30 a.m. by the local Sheriff to assist with the eviction of a tenant. The male occupant of the residence refused to leave and armed himself with a hatchet and knife when officers started speaking to him.

For the next 180 minutes police officers, police negotiators and the mental health worker from the Integrated Mobile Police and Co-Response Team (IMPACT) spoke with the male in an attempt to have the situation come to a safe conclusion.

Shortly after 2:30 p.m. after negotiations failed, members of the ERU deployed a conductive energy weapon (CEW) and placed the male under arrest on charges of Mischief, Assaulting a Police Officer, Assault with a Weapon and Uttering Threats.

The 47-year-old city man, who sustained minor injuries, was held for a bail hearing on July 25, 2025.

The Belleville Police Service would like to thank community members in the area of the incident for their patience and understanding while this situation unfolded.
