City of Kawartha Lakes Police – Inmates Charged with Murder at Central East Correctional Centre (Names Released)

On July 17th 2024 an inmate identified as Andre Taillefer was located inside his cell at the Central East Correctional Centre with serious injuries. He was transported to Ross Memorial Hospital by EMS and then later airlifted to Kingston General Hospital.

Kawartha Lakes Police Service attended the Central East Correctional Centre and commenced an investigation.

On July 22nd 2024, Kawartha Lakes Police Service received information that Andre Taillefer had succumbed to his injuries at Kingston General Hospital.

Following the investigation two fellow inmates, 34-year-old Jason Larocque of Oshawa and 28-year-old Hunter Owen of Newmarket have both been charged with First Degree Murder.

The accused will both appear at the Ontario Court of Justice at 440 Kent St W in Lindsay on July 24th 2024.

All inmate deaths in the province are also investigated by the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario.
