In Community, Local

Reports at the Northumberland Hills Hospital board’s June meeting from the NHH Auxiliary and Foundation indicate the community continues its tradition of generous support for their hospital.

Gavin Ivory said that the Foundation has successfully raised $6.9-million for the fiscal year just ended.

The five-year capital campaign to raise $25-million to address significant capital needs should conclude in a few months, Ivory said, and they are developing a first-ever lottery based on the chase-the-ace model that has proven such a success for other organizations.

And on June 27, a favourite event returns to Victoria Park, Wine & Ale in the Park, for which tickets sold out in short order.

On behalf of the Auxiliary, Selena Forsyth described the strong fundraiser that their two retail operations have proven to be.

The Little Treasure Shop, located near the NHH entrance, reports revenue this year is up 34% over this time last year.

Their thrift shop Petticoat Lane, located at 25 Munroe St., Cobourg, reports sales up 6% over last year – which was a record fiscal year – and that their proceeds for May proved to be their best May proceeds ever.

Recent figures indicate that, on the average day at Petticoat Lane – “not including jewelry, which we sold at auction for over $2,000,” Forsyth pointed out – the shop brings in $950

“It has been a busy but very satisfying time for our auxiliary members, who never cease to amaze me,” she said.
