Northumberland Food For Thought Receives Donation from Kawartha Credit Union

In Local

A local financial institution is helping to ensure that healthy, safe food is available for students through school nutrition programs in Northumberland County.

Northumberland Food For Thought will benefit from a $2,000 donation from Kawartha Credit Union through it’s Community Involvement Program. The funds will help area schools cover the costs of purchasing or repairing kitchen equipment and appliances that are fundamental to the running of student nutrition programs.

“We are so grateful for the support that Kawartha Credit Union has provided year after year,” says Beth Kolisnyk, Community Development Coordinator for PCFC, the Central East Lead for Student Nutrition Ontario, and committee member of NFFT. “Schools that need equipment or kitchen supplies to support their program or help with funding deficits will greatly benefit from this donation from Kawartha Credit Union.”

“Having proper equipment in good working order is key to food safety,” says Kimberly Leadbeater, Registered Dietitian with HKPR District Health Unit and Chair for Northumberland Food For Thought. “This funding goes a long way to support the day-to-day operations of Student Nutrition Programs in Northumberland County.

Over 6,000 Northumberland County students participate in a school nutrition program each year. Northumberland Food For Thought is the non-profit partnership that supports Student Nutrition Programs at local schools to ensure students are properly fueled for the classroom. Support from organizations such as the Kawartha Credit Union makes it possible for students to access the food they need to succeed.

“Kawartha Credit Union strives to make a positive impact in the communities we serve, and this donation to Northumberland Food For Thought will support the well-being of local students.

Proper nutrition enables students to learn, flourish and reach their full potential,” comments Crystal Dayman, Kawartha’s Executive Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Communications.

Along with the support of residents, businesses, and organizations, local Student Nutrition Programs also receive financial support from the Ontario Ministry of Children, Community and Social

Services through its lead local agency, the Peterborough Child and Family Centres.
