Several dignitaries are coming to Port Hope May 2 for the 1:30 p.m. launch of the Youth Wellness Hub at 15 Cavan St.

Associate Minister of Mental Health and Addictions Michael Tibollo, Minister of Health Sylvia Jones and Northumberland-Peterborough South MPP David Piccini will be among those present, Deputy Warden Olena Hankivsky announced at the April meeting of Northumberland County council.

There is Youth Wellness Hub information on the Ontario website, Hankivsky said, though she reiterated the information for her fellow councillors.

“The whole idea is to have the right services at the right time for youth in the county between the ages of 12 and 25 – mental health, addictions, primary care, supports for unemployment, supports for education, recreational programming, basically wrap-around services to build resilience in our youth.

“And it’s another opportunity to provide upstream intervention and improve some of the metrics that are very poor across the county – youth in Northumberland fare worse in all the metrics of health and well-being than the provincial average.”

No other Youth Wellness Hub is currently in operation between Toronto and Kingston, Hankivsky pointed out.

“This is building on the great services we do have, bringing them together in a more integrative wrap-around co-ordinated model, and identifying gaps so we can hire more personnel, especially in the area of mental health and counselling.”
