Video – Cramahe Township Gets New Fire Apparatus

In Local

Cramahe Fire Department welcomed a new apparatus to their fleet recently.

The department held a “push-in” for the vehicle on Wednesday, March 27, 2024.

Cramahe Township Fire Chief Matt Halmasy said the 2023 Freightliner Chassis features a 1,500 gallon per minute pump, that holds 1,200 gallons of water.

The truck is replacing a 25-year-old truck, “that’s been very problematic with us. It’s been out of service for the last two months because issues with the pump.”

Halmasy said it just wasn’t feasible to keep putting money into the apparatus for repairs.

The new apparatus will be stationed at Colborne Firehall on Purdy Road.

A tradition dating back over 100-years was held to commemorate the new equipment.

Halmasy before motorized vehicles horses were used to bring steam apparatus to a fire scene. When they would return to the station, the horses were disconnected and firefighters pushed the steam apparatus back into the hall.

“Firefighters are now using that to christen the new vehicle when it’s first put into service.”
