Three Men Plead Guilty to Charges Under the Ontario Fishing Regulations

Three men plead guilty in Provincial Court on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 to charges involving fishing in a sanctuary in Port Hope.

The three individuals did not appear in court, but were represented by a paralegal,

The incidents occurred on September 4, 2023 at Corbett’s dam in Port Hope which is a fishing sanctuary where fishing is not permitted.

Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry Prosecutor Doug Poirier and the paralegal representing the individuals did not read the agreed statement of facts in court but all charges and fines were a joint submission before Justice of the Peace Joanie Glover.

Abdulkarim Saadi plead guilty to sport fishing other than angling and was given a fine of $1,250 and a one year suspension of his fishing license.

A four-prong pitchfork and net were forfeited.

Mahoud Saadi and Omar Saadi plead guilty to sport fishing, other than by angling for species not listed (salmon) and fishing in a fish sanctuary during closed time under the Ontario Fishing Regulations

They were each given a fine of $1,000 for each charge and their fishing license were suspended for one year.

All persons were given eight-months to pay the fine.
