Northumberland OPP – Port Hope Man Charged with Impaired After Collision (Name Released)

(MUNICIPALITY OF PORT HOPE, ON) – One person has been charged after a police investigation into a single vehicle collision.

On February 4, 2024, at approximately 3:15 p.m., members of the Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle collision in the vicinity of Barrie Road and 4th Line in the Municipality of Port Hope.

A pick-up truck had collided with a hydro pole and following speaking with the driver, Police entered into an impaired operation investigation. There were no injuries reported.

Kurt NEWTON, 31-years-old, from Port Hope, was arrested and charged with:

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

A further 90-day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impound was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date.
