Northumberland OPP – Aerial Drone Activity at Warkworth Institution (Names Released)

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged two individuals for their involvement in attempting to deliver contraband to an inmate using an aerial drone.

On February 2, 2024, at approximately 1:15 a.m., members of the Northumberland Detachment received a call from the Warkworth Institution regarding a Remotely Piloted Aerial System (Drone) over their premises.

Officers patrolled the area and observed a suspicious pickup truck parked south of the institution on McCann Rd. As a result of the investigation, police seized items prohibited inside the correctional institution including two drones, 115g of cannabis, and cell phones.

Amanda CHOUFI, 26-year-old from Nepean, has been charged with:

  • Mischief – obstructs, interrupts or interferes with the lawful use or operation of property
  • Delivers contraband to, or receives contraband from an inmate
  • D rive vehicle with cannabis readily available
  • Speeding
  • Driver fail to surrender licence.

Michael CHENIER, 39-year-old from Ottawa, has been charged with:

  • Mischief – obstructs, interrupts or interferes with the lawful use or operation of property
  • Delivers contraband to, or receives contraband from an inmate.

Both the accused with appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date.
