Cobourg Police Service Pauses Use of Crime Stoppers

In Local, Police Blotter

The Cobourg Police Service (CPS) is aware of a cybersecurity incident involving Navigate360, the third-party provider of the P3 tip management platform used by Crime Stoppers programs across Canada.

As a precaution, CPS is temporarily pausing the use and promotion of the Peterborough and Northumberland Crime Stoppers portal and tip line. CPS is actively assessing the potential impacts of this cybersecurity incident on police operations and the appropriate next steps.

Crime Stoppers operates independently from police services. While information received through Crime Stoppers may be shared with police for investigative follow-up, the Peterborough and Northumberland Crime Stoppers program and its P3 platform are separate from CPS and any internal police systems.

Public safety remains our top priority. During this pause, CPS will not receive or action tips submitted through Crime Stoppers. Members of the public who wish to report information to police are encouraged to contact CPS directly:

• Online at cobourgpoliceservice.com/online-reporting/

• Non-Emergency Line: 905-372-6821

• In an emergency or if you are witnessing crime, call 9-1-1.

We recognize the importance of public trust, confidentiality and the safety of individuals who provide information to Crime Stoppers. CPS will continue to monitor the situation and work with Peterborough and Northumberland Crime Stoppers as further information becomes available.

Anyone with questions regarding the breach should contact the Canadian Crime Stoppers Association directly.
