An individual is facing multiple charges after a six-month drug trafficking investigation led to the seizure of more than $1 million in controlled substances in Emily Township.
Between March and June 2026, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) intercepted two packages containing controlled substances that were being imported into Canada.
The packages were destined for an address in the City of Kawartha Lakes (CKL). As a result, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) CKL Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) initiated an investigation.
On Monday, September 14, 2026, a search warrant was executed at a residence in Omemee assisted by members from:
• CKL CSCU
• Peterborough CSCU
• OPP Urban Search and Rescue, Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives Response Team
• OPP Clandestine Laboratory Investigative Response Team
• CKL OPP Detachment
• CBSA
• CKL Emergency Services
• Office of the Fire Marshal
• Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks
As a result of the investigation, officers seized the following highly potent synthetic opioids with approximate quantities:
• 1,070 g suspected chlorphine
• 215 g suspected brorphine
• 545 g suspected orphine
• 830 g suspected trichlorphine
• Cell phone
• Tablet
• Several laptop computers
Michael LASTORIA, age 37 of Emily Township, was arrested and charged with the following offences contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA):
• Trafficking in a Schedule l substance, section 5(1) CDSA
• Import Schedule l substance, section 6(1) CDSA – two counts
• Possession of a Schedule l substance for the purpose of trafficking, section 5(2) CDSA – four counts
The accused was held for a bail hearing and was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
