There are some evenings along the Cobourg waterfront when Lake Ontario seems to slow everything down.
Wednesday, September 16, was one of those evenings.
As the sun began its descent, the sky above Cobourg was painted in warm shades of orange and gold, drawing people toward the east pier to take photographs, enjoy the view or simply sit back and take in another beautiful evening along the lakeshore.
The calm waters reflected the fading light as sailboats moved along the calm waters.
Wednesday evenings traditionally bring sailboat racing just south of the Cobourg harbour, with boats competing on Lake Ontario before eventually turning back toward shore.
By the time the racing was over, the boats made their quiet return, silhouetted against the brilliant evening sky.
For those gathered on the east pier, it was less about the race and more about the moment.
Phones and cameras came out as people captured the changing colours, while others simply stood and watched.
For a community that lives beside Lake Ontario, sunsets like this are a reminder that sometimes the best entertainment in Cobourg doesn’t cost a thing.
All you need is a lakeshore, a few sailboats and a beautiful September evening.
