Video – Northumberland OPP – Transport Driver Charged After Stabbing in Alnwick/Haldimand Township (Name Released)

Members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an individual following an altercation between two motorists.

On July 21, 2026, at approximately 8:10 a.m., police and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a report of a disturbance involving two commercial motor vehicle drivers and an edged weapon on Academy Hill Road.

One individual was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The other motorist was not at the scene when officers arrived and was later taken into custody by the OPP in Belleville. Injuries sustained by this individual during the altercation were determined to be non-serious.

The investigation is being assisted by the Northumberlan d OPP Crime Unit and OPP Forensic Identification Services (IDENT).

As a result, Leroy GARWOOD (38) from Oshawa has been charged with:

– Assault causing bodily harm

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in September 2026.

Investigators believe there were a number of vehicles travelling on Academy Hill Road at the time of the incident. Anyone who witnessed the altercation, or who may have dash camera footage and has not yet spoken with police, is asked to contact the Northumberland OPP at 1-888-310-1122 and reference incident number E261038003.
