Peterborough County – Cyclist Run Off Road by Motorcycle (Name Released)

The Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have made an arrest related to a call where a cyclist had been run off the road causing injury.

On Friday April 17, 2026, at approximately 7:30pm, officers from the Peterborough County OPP received a call related to a cyclist that had been run off the road on County Road 32 near County Road 33 in Douro Dummer Township. The caller was EMS who advised the male cyclist had lots of ‘road rash’, lacerations, and was bleeding from the mouth.

The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment but was later transported to a trauma centre in Toronto due to the extent of their injuries.

The injured party advised the investigating officer that while on the trail, there was a group of individuals on electric motorcycles operating them in a dangerous manner. The victim exchanged words with one of the riders who kicked at the cyclist knocking them off their bike causing them to fall. The motorcycle in question was a black electric motorcycle without pedals.

On Thursday July 9, 2026, an individual turned themselves in at the Peterborough County OPP detachment.

Michael CURRIE (age 29) of Peterborough, ON., was arrested and charged with;

• Assault causing bodily harm

• Dangerous operation

• Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code – two counts

• Driving while under suspension – two counts

• Operate a motor vehicle without insurance

• Drive motor vehicle, no plates

• Drive motor vehicle, no permit

• No directional signals

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough, ON., on August 18, 2026.
