Video – Photo Gallery – Cobourg Legion Pipes and Drums Continue Summer Tradition of Piping Down the Sun

In Community, Local, Photo Gallery

As the sun dipped below the horizon on Saturday, July 11, 2026, the haunting sound of the bagpipes echoed across Cobourg Harbour as Cobourg Legion Pipes and Drums piper Ian McFarlane performed on the east pier.

The performance is part of the Cobourg Legion Pipes and Drums’ summer tradition of “Piping Down the Sun.”

Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening throughout the summer, pipers gather on the east pier to serenade the setting sun with a selection of traditional tunes. Facing west over Lake Ontario, the musicians perform as the sky transforms with the colours of sunset, bringing another summer day in Cobourg to a memorable close.

The free performances have become a favourite tradition for residents and visitors alike, offering a peaceful and uniquely Canadian experience along Cobourg’s waterfront.
