Cobourg Police Service is reminding the public to stay out of vacant and private properties following two recent incidents.
On June 22, 2026, at approximately 6:45 p.m., police responded twice to the former Brookside property following reports of a group of youths throwing rocks at second-floor windows and allegedly attempting to force entry into one of the buildings. Officers attended but were unable to locate anyone on scene. Police confirmed that the first floor of the building was secure, with doors and windows locked and boarded, and conducted exterior patrols of all buildings on the property throughout the night.
In a separate incident, on June 23, 2026, at approximately 3:10 a.m., police received a report of a possible break and enter in progress at a building on King Street East after a nearby resident observed suspicious activity on the roof. Officers deployed a drone to assist in the search. No individuals were observed on the roof.
During the investigation, officers located an unsecured exterior door and an unoccupied vehicle nearby. Police subsequently identified and located five youths in the area who had climbed onto a nearby structure to access the roof. All five were issued Provincial Offence Notices for engaging in prohibited activity on premises. No damage was reported.
Police are reminding the public that entering vacant or unsecured properties, climbing onto rooftops, and engaging in mischief-related activity can pose serious safety risks. These structures may be unstable, contain hazardous materials, or present unseen dangers that could result in injury. Individuals found trespassing on private property may face charges.
Anyone who observes suspicious activity is encouraged to report it to the police.
