The Public Health Unit has declared a respiratory outbreak on McMillan Cottage which has been identified as COVID-19. As of Friday, May 8, 2026, there have been two confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 2 suspected cases.
To prevent spread the following will be implemented:
• In room isolation to the best of our ability is in place for residents who are symptomatic or potentially exposed to infection.
Dining room services is suspended at this time to stop the spread of new cases.
: Non-essential visits are discouraged while the outbreak is ongoing. Visitors are encouraged to wear a mask when entering the affected unit.
Respiratory testing is being administered to residents who are symptomatic.
: if a resident is a close exposure risk to someone who has confirmed COVID-19 they will be isolating for a minimum of 5 days to ensure they do not develop symptoms.
The Golden Plough staff are monitoring all residents on affected units each shift for indications of infection. : if a resident becomes positive staff will notify their Family/POA/SDM as soon as possible.
The following are precautions/requirements during the outbreak:
• Active screening will be initiated on May 9th, 2026 upon entering the McMillan Cottage unit only until further noticed.
• Unnecessary visits or general visitors are strongly recommended to postponed until the outbreak is lifted.
• It is strongly recommended that visits take place in resident rooms only and this is a requirement if that resident is in isolation.
• The wearing of PPE while in the room of a resident who has additional precautions is a requirement of the Ministry of Health and Long-term Care for both staff and visitors. If you are visiting someone with additional precautions, please follow the required PPE recommendations and feel free to ask a staff member if unsure Life Enrichment activities on McMillan Cottage will be temporarily suspended until further notice.
• Please ensure that you are removing any PPE before leaving the room of a resident who is in isolation.
