A procession escorting Northumberland OPP Sgt. Brandon Malcolm took place from Oshawa to Cobourg on Monday, May 4, 2026.
Sgt. Malcolm was killed in a motorcycle collision on April 27, 2026 shortly after 5:30 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 near Burnham Street in Cobourg.
The collision is still under investigation, but Today’s Northumberland has learned that its believed Sgt. Malcolm was on his way back Northumberland OPP after spending the day in Orillia OPP Headquarters re-qualifying for his OPP motorcycle.
Sgt. Malcolm was a proud member of the OPP Golden Helmets precision motorcycle team.
He spent his six year career with Northumberland OPP.
Prior to serving with the OPP he was an auxiliary member of the Toronto Police and also served as a combat engineer with the Canadian Armed Forces.
Early Monday morning preparations were well underway setting up at the Cobourg Community Centre.
Town workers were cleaning up the area, flowers were being brought into the CCC, numerous TRU (OPP Tactics Response Unit) were visible. Two OPP canine units searched the outside perimetre of the building.
A private service for Sgt. Malcolm will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at the Cobourg Community Centre, 750 D’Arcy Street, Cobourg, Ontario.
The service will be attended by Sergeant Malcolm’s family, their guests, members of the OPP, representatives from other police services, emergency services personnel and officials.

A tribute in honour of Sergeant Malcolm has been set up outside of the Northumberland OPP (Cobourg) Detachment.
