The Cobourg Farmers Market returned for another season on Saturday, May 2, 2026, bringing fresh energy, familiar faces, and a strong sense of community to the waterfront.

The morning began with a ceremonial procession led by piper Mary Ito, guiding dignitaries down Second Street ahead of the official opening at 10 a.m. The tradition set the tone for a day rooted in history and local pride.

Established in 1839, the market remains a cornerstone of the community, supporting local farmers, artisans, and small businesses while providing a vibrant weekly gathering place. Each Saturday, visitors can expect an ever-changing mix of fresh produce, handcrafted goods, live music, and family-friendly activities.

Mayor Lucas Cleveland welcomed residents and visitors alike to the market, located behind Victoria Hall at Rotary Harbourfront Park. Reflecting on his own journey, Cleveland described the opening as a “full circle” moment.

Nine years ago, he recalled, he set up a stand selling almond milk shortly after moving to Cobourg.

“Each year it’s exciting to discover our new vendors, enjoy live music and take part in the incredible activities as this market truly offers something special for everyone,” said Cleveland.

Lauren Quinte, President of the Cobourg Farmers Market Association, spoke about the deeper meaning behind the market’s success.

“Behind every table here is a story—early mornings, long days, a lot of hard work, and a real passion for what people do,” she said. “You’re not just buying something, you’re supporting someone. And that makes a difference.”

Quinte added that the experience of the market is just as important as what people take home.

“I think that’s why this market means so much to so many people—it’s not just about what you take home, it’s about the experience of being here,” she said. “So take your time today. Walk around, talk to people, try something new, and maybe grab that extra thing you didn’t plan on. You won’t regret it.”

With its long-standing history and continued growth, the Cobourg Farmers Market once again promises a season filled with connection, discovery, and community spirit along the waterfront.

During the Spring there are approximately 30 vendors around the oval, but during the peak summer season there are 50.
