Golden Helmets Lead Fallen Officer from Cobourg Community Centre Under Sunset Sky

In Editor Choice, Local, Police Blotter

A solemn procession led by the Ontario Provincial Police Golden Helmets carried Northumberland OPP Sgt. Brandon Malcolm from the Cobourg Community Centre on Monday evening, May 4, 2026, as a vivid orange sunset cast a final glow over the scene.

Sgt. Malcolm, 33, was killed in a single-vehicle motorcycle collision on April 27, 2026, in the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 just west of Cobourg.

A proud member of the Golden Helmets precision motorcycle team, Sgt. Malcolm represented the OPP at public events and official functions throughout his six-year career with Northumberland OPP. Prior to joining the force, he served as an auxiliary member with the Toronto Police Service and as a combat engineer with the Canadian Armed Forces.

Following private visitation at the Cobourg Community Centre, the motorcade departed at approximately 8:38 p.m., for the Oshawa Funeral Home marking a poignant moment of remembrance for a respected officer, colleague, and community member.

A private funeral will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Cobourg Community Centre, where thousands of police officers are expected to attend and pay their respects.

Members of the public are invited to line D’Arcy Street across from the Cobourg Community Centre to honour Sgt. Malcolm — a life lost too soon, and a hero remembered.
