Video – Photo Gallery – Cobourg Sailboats Return to Water Despite Hail and High Winds at Spring Boat Lift-In

Spring arrives on Cobourg’s waterfront in a way that feels almost ceremonial—boats returning to the lake and another sailing season getting underway.

On Saturday, May 2, 2026, and continuing into Sunday, May 3, 2026, the annual spring boat lift-in took place in Cobourg, marking the official start of the boating season. A crane carefully hoisted sailboats from their winter storage and lowered them back into the water, one by one, as crews and owners prepared for the months ahead on Lake Ontario.

The opening day didn’t offer much in the way of spring comfort. Strong winds swept across the harbour, and brief bursts of rain and hail moved through the area, making conditions less than ideal. Even so, the lift-in continued without interruption, with each boat safely secured into the water despite the challenging weather.

By the end of the weekend, every sailboat had been launched successfully, and the marina began to settle into its familiar early-season rhythm. With hulls now back in the water and masts rising along the shoreline, the message was clear: the sailing season has officially begun on Cobourg’s waterfront.
