“Because of You”: YMCA Northumberland Celebrates Community Impact at 2026 Annual Meeting

YMCA Northumberland hostedits Annual Meeting on April 23, 2026, at The Mill Restaurant & Golf Course, bringing together staff, leaders, dignitaries, volunteers, donors and community partners under the theme, “Because of You,” to reflect on a year of growth and impact.

The meeting opened with a warm welcome from Eunice Kirkpatrick, President and Chief Executive Officer,YMCA Northumberland. While attendees fetched their delicious buffet breakfast, they were serenaded by the soothing sounds of local performer, Rayleigh.

Following breakfast, Board Director, Kevin Griffindelivered a land acknowledgement. Then, Board Chair, Mark Galonski and Eunice presentedon the organization’s achievements over the past year and outlined strategic priorities for the year ahead.

Next, attendees heard a moving “Y” story from longtime member, dedicated volunteer and donor, Jessica Fraser-Thomas, who reflected on the Y’s values and impact both personally and for the whole county. Attendees also enjoyed another captivating musical performance from Rayleigh.

“This year’s theme, ‘Because of You,’ is a heartfelt acknowledgement that every milestone we achieve is a shared victory,” saysEunice.“Our accomplishments demonstrate what happens when a community shows up for one another to support well-being and active living. The message is clear; our collective efforts change lives!”

With close to 300,000 visits to YMCA Northumberland’s three Health, Fitness & Aquatics locationsin 2025, serving 7,350+ members,plusover 6,400 days spent by children incamps, 3,400 swim lessons taken,and 828 children enrolled in YMCA child care, the demand for services and programs offered by the organization is greater than ever.

The meeting also featured a 2025 Financial Report by Baker Tilly LLP, highlighting ongoing financial stability and growth that continues to support their vital programs and services.

Next, Mark introduced and reviewed several board motions. New Board DirectorNominees Haig Baronikianof Brighton, Suzanne McCrimmon of Cobourg and Michael Shankar of Campbellford were introduced and voted into their term. Current Board Director, Yvette McCartney of Cobourg renewed her term.

The AGM also provided an opportunity for community members to engage directly with YMCA leadership with a question period.
