Emergency crews across Northumberland County were kept busy last Thursday, March 26, 2026, responding to three separate structure fires within a span of less than 12 hours.

The first call came in at 1:31 a.m., when Trent Hills Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire on Second Street near Saskatoon Avenue in Campbellford.

Fire Chief Shawn Jamieson said crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the home, with flames breaking through the roof shortly after. The fire is considered suspicious, as the home was unoccupied, had no power, and was slated for demolition.

Roughly 30 minutes later, at 2:04 a.m., firefighters were called to another structure fire on Young Street in Brighton. Brighton Fire Department was assisted by Cramahe Fire Department in battling the blaze.

The fire is believed to have started in a vacant apartment unit. Fire Chief Gene Thompson said due to the damage, the cause is undetermined.

Later that day, at 12:38 p.m., Alnwick/Haldimand Township Fire Department, along with Hamilton Township Fire Department, responded to a structure fire on County Road 18 in Alderville.

When crews arrived, Fire Chief Dave Dawson said the fire was extinguished.
