Exclusive – Video – Suspects Arrested After Alleged Grocery Theft at Cobourg Metro

In News

Three people were arrested Sunday afternoon after an alleged theft at a Metro grocery store in Cobourg.

Around 4:15 p.m. on March 22, 2026, Today’s Northumberland received a tip about a suspected shoplifting incident at the Metro located on Elgin Street. According to initial information, the individuals allegedly left the store without paying for a quantity of groceries.

Cobourg Police quickly responded to the scene and located the suspects’ vehicle in the nearby parking lot by Kawartha Dairy. Officers surrounded the SUV and took the three individuals into custody without incident.

When Today’s Northumberland arrived, the vehicle was already secured by police. Notably, the SUV did not have license plates attached. After officers opened the rear hatch, a large amount of groceries could be seen inside.

Police later sealed the vehicle, and a tow truck removed it from the scene, transporting it to the police station as part of the investigation.

As of now, Cobourg Police have not released additional details about the arrests. The service has also not issued a media release in approximately a week.
