Northumberland OPP – Visitor Charged with Assault on Correctional Officer (Name Released)

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an individual following an incident at Warkworth Institution.

On January 30, 2026, it was reported that a visitor at the facility refused to leave and kicked a door causing injury to a Correctional Officer. The member of staff was later transported to a local hospital for non-serious injuries.

As a result of the investigation, the Northumberland OPP Crime Unit took one person into custody on March 16.

Maryan MAHAMED (32) from Scarborough, has been charged with:

· Assault a peace officer with a weapon.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in April, 2026.
