A 3-1 win Wednesday afternoon at the Keeler Centre in Colborne gave the Northumberland Stars a commanding lead in their Greater Metro Jr. A Hockey League playoff series against the Durham Roadrunners.
Northumberland, which lost the series opener 6-3 this past Friday, has won three straight and lead the best-of-seven South Division Final three games to one.
They evened the series with a 7-6 win Saturday in Whitby and prevailed 4-2 in Game 3 on Sunday in Oshawa.
Wednesday’s game played out like the series to this point as the Stars trailed 1-0 after the first before evening things up in the second and scoring twice unanswered in the third.
Northumberland will have its first of three opportunities to advance to the Russell Cup championship series on Friday night in Colborne. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at the Keeler Centre.
The winner of the Northumberland-Durham match-up will meet the winner of the North Division final between the Wasaga River Dragons and West Nipissing Lynx. Wasaga currently leads that series 2-1.
